Pupil artwork brightens the site
September 6th 2010
Alistair Brymer, Construction Manager for the Site, approached both schools to ask if their pupils would be interested in creating some works of art to brighten up the hoarding surrounding the site. The response was fantastic and supplies of boards and paint were sent to each art department.
Pupils at Newton High School worked with the theme of 'community' to create their Artworks. Each student was encouraged to develop a unique idea to represent the coming together of individuals. The pupils involved were mixed in ages from 13 to 16 and each and every one of them worked tremendously hard and gave up a great deal of their free time including some of their holidays!
“I am incredibly proud of the students and would like to congratulate them on producing work that they can be proud of” commented Lorrel Chetwynd, Art Teacher at Newton le Willows Community High School
The boards from St Aelred’s were made by children from Year 7 and Year 9 and were completed during lunchtime and after school Art club sessions. In some cases they have taken their inspiration from Newton itself, as in the imaginative composition by Year 9 pupils, based on buildings around Newton. In other cases, such as the Year 7 piece, ‘Aspirations’ they depict a Newton schoolgirl looking forward to enjoying all the exciting rainbow of opportunities she will be given in the new Academy – the sky’s the limit!
The range of superb quality work has now been framed and erected on the hoarding at the Ashton Road Entrance.
