Religious Education
At Key Stage 3 all pupils follow two hours of Religious Education each week, approved by the Catholic Archdiocese and Church of England Diocese.
During Year 7, 8 and 9 all students will follow a course that is based on our ecumenical mission which looks at a range of moral and ethical issues that are part of contemporary society. Students will study a range of world religions that include Hinduism, Judaism and Islam.
The programme of study is diverse and looks at different ethical and moral issues and the influence of religion in the world today.
At Key Stage 4 all pupils follow a GCSE course in Religious Education.
In Year 10 and Year 11 students follow the Edexcel GCSE course which will be examined at the end of their two years of study. Students will study the Unit 8 module in Year 10 and the Unit 2 module in Year 11. Through a range of teaching techniques students will be encouraged to study independently and Assessment for Learning is used effectively to ensure that all students maximise their potential to achieve the best possible GCSE grade. The department has an excellent record of GCSE success and students have a good attitude to the subject and are given opportunities to voice their own opinions and insights in individual or group situations.
At Key Stage 5 students follow the OCR Philosophy and Ethics ‘A’ level course, this covers a wide variety of topics and introduces the students to analysis and the skills of critical thinking.
The department runs an annual pilgrimage to Rome, where students are given an opportunity to learn more about the history of religion and civilisation and its continued relevance in the world around us.
Rome Trip
The RE department supports students from a range of religious and secular backgrounds and encourages all students to use their learning to increase tolerance and understanding and to use this to follow the message of Jesus to respect others and recognise and celebrate the differences and similarities between different cultures and religions in an rapidly changing world.
The RE department is based on the ground floor in the environment corridor and has its own suite of rooms that serve the pupils’ learning needs very successfully. If you have any more questions then please do not hesitate the RE department.
