Within the Academy, sustainability will be applied to the curriculum practically, as well as theoretically, through:
•  the use of information about the environmental impact of the school building and its population, eg carbon emissions, energy efficiency, travel to school, recycling;
•  the explicit nature of the building; its fabric and its functions;
•  application of local environmental data;
•  inclusion of thinking skills, learning skills and system thinking;
•  links with local government and community and voluntary agencies and a “hands-on” involvement in local environmental and regeneration projects;
•  practical positive engagement with the natural environment and its integrated use in the theoretical curriculum (e.g. the use of environmental data or land-based industries calculations as the context for science or maths programmes of study);
•  a planned curriculum for learning outside the classroom;
•  specific and discreet environmental / sustainability projects through integral and enrichment activities in the curriculum;
•  creation of links to the developing world through faith links.
